Excellence in Education

Superintendent Galaviz Dear Canutillo Community,

I am thrilled to share some exciting news about our ongoing partnership with the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) College of Education. This year, we are proud to welcome a new cohort of the Miner Teaching Residents for the 2024-25 academic year. This partnership has been a cornerstone of our district's commitment to excellence in education, and it continues to yield exceptional results for our students and community.

The Miner Teacher Residency program is a unique and innovative initiative designed to provide aspiring teachers with a full year of hands-on clinical preparation. This immersive experience takes place in our school classrooms, where residents work alongside a carefully selected and trained Mentor Teacher. The residents also benefit from the ongoing coaching and support of a UTEP Site Coordinator, a dedicated faculty member based on-site at our partner campuses.

This year, Canutillo ISD is excited to place new teaching residents at Davenport and Childress elementary schools, Alderete Middle School, and Northwest Early College High School. These schools will host a group of enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who are eager to contribute to our district's tradition of educational excellence.

I had the pleasure of meeting our new residents during a special marching ceremony on Thursday. Their enthusiasm and fresh ideas were palpable, and I am confident that they will bring a wealth of energy and innovation to our classrooms. It is always inspiring to see the next generation of educators ready to take on the challenge of shaping young minds.

The partnership between Canutillo ISD and UTEP College of Education is built on a shared vision of preparing highly qualified teachers who are ready to meet the diverse needs of our students. The Miner Teacher Residency program is a testament to this vision. By embedding residents in real classroom settings for a full academic year, the program ensures that they gain invaluable experience and develop the skills necessary to thrive in their teaching careers.

Our Mentor Teachers play a crucial role in this process. They provide guidance, support, and a wealth of practical knowledge to the residents. The Mentor Teachers at Canutillo ISD are carefully selected based on their expertise and commitment to mentorship. They are the unsung heroes who help shape the future of education by investing their time and energy in nurturing the talents of aspiring teachers.

Additionally, the ongoing support from the UTEP Site Coordinator is instrumental in the success of the program. This faculty member works closely with both the residents and Mentor Teachers to provide continuous feedback, professional development, and support. This collaborative approach ensures that the residents are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the classroom and contribute positively to our district's educational goals.

As we welcome the new teaching residents to the Canutillo family, I want to emphasize the importance of this partnership for our district. The Miner Teacher Residency program not only provides us with a pipeline of highly qualified teachers but also enhances the overall quality of education in our schools. The residents bring fresh perspectives, innovative teaching methods, and a passion for education that invigorates our classrooms.

I am particularly excited about the impact that these new residents will have on our students. Their enthusiasm and dedication are contagious, and I am confident that they will inspire our students to achieve their full potential. The hands-on experience that the residents gain during their year-long residency is invaluable, and it prepares them to become effective and impactful educators.

I want to extend a warm welcome to the new Miner Teaching Residents. We are delighted to have you join the Canutillo ISD family. Your commitment to education and your willingness to embrace this challenging and rewarding journey are truly commendable. I wish you all the best as you embark on this exciting chapter in your careers. Your presence in our schools will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of our students, and we are grateful for the passion and energy you bring to our district.

Together, with the continued support of the  UTEP College of Education, we will continue to build a brighter future for our students and our community. Thank you for being a part of this important work, and welcome to Canutillo ISD.
