The Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to create the 2024 Canutillo Bond Accountability Committee that will help oversee the management of the historic bond approved by voters in the District on May 4.
The committee, known as CBAC, will be made up of Canutillo residents and business owners and will be tasked with reviewing and assessing all aspects of the $387-million bond program, including implementation of timelines, review of budgets and expenditures for construction projects, and assessment of contracts as approved by Trustees.
CBAC members will meet at least quarterly to receive reports and presentations from CISD staff and contractors hired by the District to implement the Bond projects.
“The CBAC is one of the layers of accountability the District has implemented to guarantee transparency in the expenditure of Bond funds,” said CISD Board President Armando Rodriguez. “We welcome the opportunity to have members of our community and business partners to form part of the systems designed to make sure all Bond funds are used appropriately and in benefit of the students of Canutillo ISD.”
To serve on CBAC, candidates must be residents or own a business within the Canutillo ISD boundaries. Selected members will be required to attend an orientation and subsequent meetings.

Voters on May 4 approved the Canutillo Bond 2024 referendum that will address infrastructure, safety and security and enrollment issues throughout the District. Major projects include the reconstruction and relocation of Davenport Elementary as well as Alderete and Canutillo middle schools. It also includes the construction of a new Northwest Early College campus, repairs at every campus in the District and districtwide safety and security upgrades.
