The team’s high marks catapulted them to the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin, Texas in two weeks, marking them as the sole academic representatives from the El Paso Area. Only the top five schools in the state qualify.

“We are extremely proud of our math team and their coach Mr. Rudy Medina for always putting in the work and making us proud with their strong showing at competition,” said Canutillo High School Principal Candice Marrufo. “The math team has a long history of success and have proven to be formidable competitors at area, regional and state competitions.”

Among their achievements, Matthew Medina clinched the title of UIL Regional Champion in Calculator Applications, leading the charge for his team. Samuel Saucedo secured 6th place, closely followed by April Ruiz in 9th place and Malaya Porras in 17th place in the Calculator Applications category. With their dedication and skill, they've earned their spot among the top five schools in the state, setting the stage for an exciting showdown at the state level.

“We are going to keep the momentum up and our team will continue to work hard to do the best they can at the state competition,” said Coach Medina. “We are excited to go up against the state’s best competitors and show them what a talented and dedicated group of kids we have here in Canutillo.”
