Dr. Oscar Rico has been named Executive Director of Operations for the Canutillo Independent School District, Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz announced on Tuesday. He will oversee the District’s Transportation, Maintenance and Technology departments effective Feb. 15.
Rico, who currently serves as Executive Director of Technology, assumes oversight of the District’s transportation and maintenance departments from Bruno Vasquez, the current Executive Director of Maintenance & Transportation. Vasquez is leaving the District to pursue other professional opportunities.
“Canutillo ISD is at a critical juncture as far as facilities are concerned, and I am confident that under the leadership of Dr. Rico we can meet our goals and do so in a manner that is strategically and fiscally beneficial to the District,” Galaviz said. “Dr. Rico is an experienced educator who has a history of proven success. He will bring that type of commitment to the table as we move forward in our efforts to modernize and right-place our school buildings.”
Rico is the former principal of Alderete Middle School. Before his tenure in Canutillo, he served as assistant principal in the El Paso Independent School District and taught science in the Ysleta Independent School District.
He has a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, masters degrees in educational leadership and science instruction as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Texas at El Paso.
