Canutillo High School math team team takes top spot at state math meet

The group took home first place in the Calculator Applications category.

The team's exceptional performance showcased their mathematical prowess and dedication to the competition. Their success not only reflects their hard work and preparation but also demonstrates the strength of the Canutillo High School math program.

“We are very proud of our math team,” CHS Principal Candice Marrufo said. “They have a long track record of success when it comes to competing regionally and nationally and this year is no exception. All their hard work and practice is paying off.”

Senior April Ruiz took first place in the Calculator Applications and Math categories, and fifth place in Number Sense. Senior Malaya Porras claimed third place in Calculator Applications.

Senior Samuel Saucedo earned first place in Calculator Applications and second place in Math. Junior Matthew Medina received first place in Calculator Applications and third place in Number Sense and Math.

Last but not least, sophomore Dafne Day took first place in Calculator Applications.

Saucedo and Ruiz were each awarded a $2000 scholarship to Texas Tech for their performance in the Calculator Applications category.

“This impressive win is a source of pride for the school and Canutillo community, highlighting the potential and talent of these young mathematicians,” said Rudy Medina, CHS math teacher and math team coach.
