Bright, Healthy Futures

Superintendent Galaviz Dear Canutillo Community,

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott this week made a decision to expand the deployment of NARCAN, a life-saving medication, to all Texas law enforcement agencies – including the police forces that help protect school districts. While I am pleased to inform you that our Canutillo ISD Police Department already possesses NARCAN, we commend the Governor's prudent decision to extend its availability and update our current supplies.

In the ever-evolving landscape of public safety, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and well-prepared for unforeseen emergencies. Though we fervently hope to never have to utilize NARCAN within our district, we must acknowledge the stark reality that the opioid crisis continues to pose a threat to our society. Therefore, we must be resolute in our readiness to respond to potential overdoses at a moment's notice.

The Canutillo Independent School District is unwavering in its commitment to prevention and forging partnerships that safeguard our students and families against the scourge of drug abuse. Just last month, the Board of Trustees took a significant step by adopting a resolution to raise awareness about the grave dangers of fentanyl, a potent and lethal synthetic opioid. The resolution outlines strategies to help combat its alarming prevalence in our nation.

As an educational institution entrusted with the well-being of our students and the broader community, we view this resolution as a proactive measure to address a pressing public health concern. By collaborating with local agencies, families, and community partners, we aspire to create a safer environment that fosters healthy choices and resiliency among our students.

The opioid epidemic is a complex issue that demands our collective attention, and our district is firmly committed to playing an active role in mitigating its impact. Our efforts extend beyond the classroom, reflecting our dedication to the holistic development and safety of our students.

I wish to express my gratitude to each member of our community for your unwavering support and dedication to the well-being of our students and families. Together, we can tackle the challenges presented by drug abuse and its devastating consequences, and together, we can build a brighter, healthier future for all.

Thank you for your continued partnership, and please know that the Canutillo Independent School District remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, safety, and the well-being of our entire community.
