Alderete Middle and Canutillo High School cheer teams bring it at state competitions
The Jose J. Alderete Middle School and Canutillo High School cheer teams were not fooling around when they took the floor to compete at cheer competitions around Texas April 1 -2. The two teams displayed some serious Eagle spirit resulting in each being hailed champions.
The AMS squad dominated the Cheer & Dance/Drill Team America Competition at SeaWorld San Antonio taking home First Place with a ranking of Superior, Grand Champions of the Junior High/Middle School Division and Outstanding Routine & Outstanding Stunts.
“We are very proud of the performance put on by our cheer team at competition,” said AMS Principal Nidia Avila. “So much work and practice goes into this sport and they give it their all to be the best and sweeping a statewide competition the way they did is confirmation that they are among the best cheer squads in Texas.”
Not to be outdone by their competitors from throughout the state, the CHS Varsity Cheer Team put on an energetic performance at the Cheer America Championships Freedom Dance Events in Round Rock, TX that earned them the title of National Champions.
“Hard work pays off,” said CHS Interim Principal Candice Marrufo. “The team puts their heart and soul into practice and their performances all year long. It is always great when they receive the recognition they deserve.”
