Northwest will compete with seven other schools from throughout the United States following a selection process that began with thousands of schools from urban centers.

“We’re extremely proud of the work the students and staff at Northwest Early College do day in and day out,” said Canutillo Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “It is not surprising to know that national organizations like NCUST are now recognizing what we already know: that Northwest is one of the best schools in the country.”

NCUST is a national organization that aims to recognize, collaborate and support urban school districts in the United States through advocacy, training and collaboration.

The Best Schools in America Awards program recognizes schools who have gone above and beyond in their work with low-income student populations and performed at high levels using equity and accessibility.

As a finalist, Northwest will receive a site visit to assess the work happening on campuses. Winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes will be announced in the spring semester.

“We look forward to showcasing the amazing work that our students and teachers do,” said Principal Frank Clark. “This is another feather in the cap of opportunities our school has been able to amass in support of our students.”
