The Adopt a Family Program was started nearly 10 years ago when District administrators decided that each Central Office department would raise funds among its employees to provide clothing, gifts and food for one family at each campus.

Since then, the program has been expanded to include additional families based on extreme need as determined by social workers and family engagement liaisons with the Canutillo Student Services Department.

This year, a total of 14 families were provided a turkey courtesy of the Blanco, Ordoñez, Mata & Wechsler Law Firm as well as sundries courtesy of CISD’s Student Services Department. Additionally, each child in the family received a full outfit and a Christmas gift from one of the different departments and partners in the CISD Central Office.

The participating departments include: Canutillo Safety & Security, Superintendent’s Office, Associate Superintendent’s Office, Special Education, Human Resources, Career & Technical Education, Child Nutrition Services, Instructional Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, Public Information Office, Internal Audit Office and Academic Language Services.

This year, several community partners joined the District in providing for the families. Those partners include Keep Vinton Beautiful, CISD Parent Christina Rodriguez and Dr. Monica Reyes and Family.

The receiving families were selected based on need as determined by the work of social workers with the school district. The families collected their donated items on Tuesday.

Have a wonderful Christmas, Canutillo!
