This week, students at Gonzalo and Sofia Garcia Elementary School got a chance to explore the world of engineering onboard the Texas Mobile STEM Lab, the largest mobile lab in the country.

Learning Undefeated, in partnership with the Texas Education Agency, operates the Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory, a custom-outfitted learning space that offers engaging, immersive, hands-on STEM experiences for students and teachers, teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics topics and skills.

The Ravens had the chance to explore different kinds of STEM career opportunities and work on interactive science experiments. The Texas Mobile STEM Lab allows K-8 students to solve engineering design challenges and work cooperatively. Curriculum on the lab is a set of model STEM activities that integrate content knowledge and are fully aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the state curriculum.

For K-2 students, activities are based on familiar storybooks such as The Three Little Pigs and Jack & the Beanstalk. For older students, activities use real-world examples such as building a circuit, engineering a flood barrier or designing a rocket capsule.

“We are happy to be able to provide our students with the opportunity to explore the Texas Mobile STEM Lab,” GES Principal Maria Alarcon said. “Our students at every grade level were exposed to fun activities at their level that made it easy for them to understand engineering, math and science concepts.”
