“We all knew this would be an unprecedented school year and it would take extraordinary effort to meet the needs of our students, parents and staff, and I am proud of the job our district employees did to make this school year a success,” said Board President Sergio Coronado.

Employees of the Canutillo Independent School District received an unexpected and welcomed monetary surprise on Thursday.

It was announced that superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz and the school board were issuing a one-time retention stipend for the 2020-2021 school year. The stipend is funded by COVID-19 relief dollars distributed by the federal government.

The Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a board resolution authorizing a one time payment as COVID relief to certain district employees. On June 10 at a special board meeting, the board approved the distribution of a stipend that will give qualified employees $2,000.00 in additional pay in June.

“I am pleased to announce that all employees will receive a $2000 stipend from COVID relief funds,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “I appreciate the courage and fortitude displayed by all of our team members during these trying times. It is hoped that this additional compensation will help make life easier as we transition back to a new normal.” Retaining quality current employees will help mitigate the learning gap for the 2021-2022 school year.
