Two students from Alderete Middle School were named Ambassadors of Peace for the second consecutive year, 2019 and 2020. Celeste Nuñez and Jamin Paz were honored by the program Do The Write Thing for their writing on youth anti-violence/anti-bullying and ways to prevent it in our community.

Do the Write Thing is a program that gives students in Texas and throughout our nation the courage to address an issue through a safe platform. The challenge seeks students that are daring and want to advocate for a positive environment.

With the guidance of Mr. Angel Olivas, students Nuñez and Paz were elected as the top two essays to represent El Paso in the Washington D.C. national office of Do the Write Thing Challenge. Their essays competed with over 8,000 essays from the El Paso area schools.

They will be awarded by a committee comprised of attorneys, judges, professors and counselors. Their essays are in the Library of Congress, ensuring that the student’s words will be available to all.
