New guidelines by the U.S. Department of Agriculture affecting the free breakfast and lunch program
New rules from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will allow the Canutillo Independent School District to provide free breakfast and lunch to children ages 18 and under starting on Thursday, October 1, regardless of their enrollment status or residence in the District. It will also allow to provide weekend meals.
The new rules also mean that parents with children enrolled in different campuses may now pick up meals at one location instead of traveling to each of the schools in which they’re enrolled.
“With the new guidelines announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture we will be able to provide thousands of healthy meals to students in our communities. This will make it convenient for our busy parents to pick up meals to go,” said Marco Macias, Canutillo ISD’s Director of Child Nutrition Department.
Meals will be provided for any child ages 18 and under, and the child need not be a student in CISD. Children need not be present to receive the meals, however, parents or guardians must present one of the following documents for verification:
- Official document from any school to demonstrate enrollment.
- Report card
- Birth certificate
- Student ID card
The free meal program will continue for all CISD students who are attending in-person instruction. Students on campus will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch to consume in the classroom.
All Canutillo ISD schools will have curbside distribution of breakfast and lunch meals from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday - Friday.
