Throughout the day, educators received the latest training on how to effectively address the social and emotional needs of students during the SEL Bowl 3.0. They learned skills and techniques in areas to include crisis intervention, mindfulness in the classroom, needs of LGBTQ students, supporting students through technology and current drug trends to name a few.

“It is crucial that we arm our teachers and staff with the knowledge and skills to zone in and address, monitor and nurture our students' social and emotional needs,” said Executive Director of Student Support Services Dr. Monica Reyes. “Oftentimes our teachers and staff may be the first line of defense to support students who may be going through social, emotional or mental health situations and they need to know how to effectively identify, direct and provide support for all our students.”

Additionally, SEL Bowl 3.0 participants were able to gather information and meet and greet various community partners and resources that aim to nurture and support mental health with a tabling event.

During this year’s GRIT conference, all campus and District leaders, teachers and staff were able to gain a wealth of knowledge and resources in an array of topics that will result in assuring students receive a well rounded and optimal education throughout all campuses and grade levels.

Teachers and staff are excited to put their new skills to good use when they welcome students back on Monday, July 31.
