With the new year came a new cohort of little learners to join Garcia Elementary School’s (GES) Montessori program - the first public Montessori program in the region.
CISD’s Montessori program is a free full-day and dual-language pre-kinder classes for 3 year-olds using the innovative Montessori Method that allows children to learn at their own pace using self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play that relies on auto-education rather than traditional lesson plans.
The program has received significant interest from the community since its start in fall 2022. The District has continued to expand the program to offer this distinct learning opportunity to more students in the Canutillo community and beyond.
“We are thrilled with the success of the first Montessori program in this region,” said GES Principal Maria Alarcon. “The overwhelming interest in our program shows the demand for this kind of programming in public education for the youngest children in our region and we are happy to be able to keep expanding this opportunity.”
The Montessori program at GES is expected to continue expanding to welcome new cohorts each school year and add a grade each year until the fifth-grade.
