Canutillo’s littlest students sign on to learn Reyes Elementary School in the Canutillo Independent School District welcomed 3 and 4 year olds into a lifelong of learning this week with a signing ceremony to welcome them into pre-k or kindergarten.

Just like student athletes do when they commit to study and play at a prestigious university, Canutillo’s littlest learners made a commitment to work hard and embrace their education.

“We want to celebrate that family's decision to start their education early,” said Reyes Principal Dr. Jessica Carrillo-Melendez. “We are thrilled to welcome them into the Reyes Family and for them to be part of the Canutillo school district, the Best Small District in Texas.”

The students who participated in the ceremony will be enrolled in either pre-k or kinder during the 2023-24 school year that starts in late July.

After confirming their registration, the students received a certificate inducting them into the District and Reyes.

Festivities included photos with the Red Hawk mascot, face painting and music.

Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz said events like the one at Reyes help students get excited about learning.

“We want to show our families that while we take learning seriously in Canutillo, we also know that a happy student learns better than a student who doesn’t feel welcomed,” he said. “I’m excited to welcome these little ones in the fall. It is already shaping up to be a great year!”
