The Canutillo Independent School District on Wednesday announced the appointment of longtime educator Maggie Castillo as the next principal of Jose H. Damian Elementary School. Her appointment is effective Jan. 2, 2024.
“I am thrilled to have Ms. Castillo joined our corps of principals and look forward to her leadership making a huge impact in the Damian Community,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “She brings with her a passion for education and a deep understanding of what needs to be done in order to further elevate student performance at that storied school.”
Castillo currently serves as assistant principal at Congressman Silvestre & Carolina Reyes Elementary School. Her educational career also includes stints as a teacher at Reyes and Santa Teresa Elementary School in the Gadsden Independent SchoolDistrict.
A graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, Castillo received a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies and a masters degree in bilingual education curriculum and instruction – both with magna cum laude honors.
Castillo is a Canutillo native and a 1999 graduate of Canutillo High School.
