Amidst the waters of San Diego, California, Blake embarked on a remarkable journey as she participated in the prestigious U.S. Navy Leaders to Sea program, granting her an exclusive tour of the illustrious USS Abraham Lincoln.

Leaders to Sea provides influential community leaders, business executives, political leaders, media executives, educators and other centers of influence with insight into the daily operations of a Navy ship at sea.

The intent of the program is to introduce civilians with no Navy background to experience what it's like to live and work at sea, acquaint them with Naval ship capabilities and highlight the ship and crew.

For Blake, this opportunity represented more than just a tour - it was a chance to immerse herself in the world of naval leadership, gain invaluable insights and foster connections that transcend the boundaries of her everyday role.

"I've always believed in the power of exploration, whether it's exploring academic possibilities with my students or venturing into new realms of knowledge myself," Blake said. "Being able to experience life aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln is an honor and a privilege.”

Once Blake stepped onto the deck of the ship, her senses came alive with the roar of activity that resonated throughout the vessel. From the intricate workings of the flight deck to the inner sanctums where strategic decisions are made, she found herself immersed in a world where discipline, teamwork and resilience reign supreme.

"I was struck by the sheer magnitude of operations aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln," Blake reflected. "Every individual plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of the mission, and witnessing that level of dedication was truly inspiring."

Throughout her journey, Blake had the opportunity to engage with naval officers, enlisted personnel, and fellow leaders from across the nation, exchanging ideas, perspectives, and experiences that surpassed the boundaries of their respective domains. She found herself enriched by the wealth of knowledge that surrounded her.

After the eye-opening tour, Blake bid farewell to the USS Abraham Lincoln, her heart filled with gratitude for the unforgettable experiences and lasting connections forged during her voyage. Though her journey may have come to an end, the lessons learned and memories made will continue to inspire her as she navigates the currents of guiding her students’ futures.

"As a counselor, my goal is to empower students to chart their own course towards success," Blake said. "By participating in programs like Leaders to Sea, I'm not only expanding my own horizons but also gaining valuable insights that I can share with my students, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination."
