Dear Canutillo Familia,
I am humbled and grateful to take on the role of President of the Board of Trustees for the Canutillo Independent School District. As a lifelong resident of Canutillo, a Canutillo High School alumna and CISD retiree, I never imagined I would take on this responsibility. However, I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work alongside my fellow trustees and the amazing staff to continue our path to greatness. Thank you for placing your trust in me and my fellow trustees to make decisions that benefit the future of Canutillo.
I’d be remiss not to acknowledge the legacy of my predecessor. Sergio Coronado spent nearly 20 years serving the children of our community as a member of this Board, and his wisdom and passion earned him the trust of his fellow trustees who on more than one occasion voted him President. Mr. Coronado is not only a true advocate for children and for Canutillo, he is the ethical and moral center that often guides us to make difficult but important decisions. On behalf of the rest of the Board and the entire Canutillo community, I want to thank him for his years of service and wish him good luck as he moves on to his next adventure: the El Paso County Commissioners Court.
Mr. Coronado’s expected resignation by the end of the calendar year will create a vacancy on the Board, and trustees last month decided to seek applicants for consideration to fill that seat. The application process is now open and I encourage all qualified people with a keen interest to improve the lives of children to submit an application. To learn more about this process, visit:

Lastly, as we head into the festive holiday season, I want to wish all the students, parents, employees and community members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We have had a wonderful year filled with many, many highs and – yes – some lows. But we continue to prove that we are the Best Small School District in Texas and that is something to celebrate. Have a restful break. We will see you in January full of energy and ready to close off the second half of the school year strong.
