The campus has once again been named a 2022-23 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for its commitment to helping students own their education by increasing student access, engagement and achievement in PLTW programs.

DDE was one of 26 PLTW Launch programs in Texas and one of less than 500  across the country to receive the recognition, making the campus part of a community of PreK-12 schools, colleges, and universities, corporate and philanthropic partners across the country united around one passion for providing students with inspiring, engaging, and empowering learning opportunities.

“We are thrilled to once again be named a PLTW Distinguished school,” said DDE Principal Lupe Montanez. “This demonstrates that our students are getting the most out of their learning experiences on campus and are growing academically and personally in ways that will stay with them well beyond their years with us.”

To be eligible for the designation, DDE must offer at least one PLTW Gateway unit at each grade level; have strategies in place to support reasonable proportional representation with regard to race, ethnicity, poverty, gender and can support such claims with relevant data; have 25 percent of students advancing to high school participation in two or more units and have more than 50 percent of the student body participating during the 2020-21 school year.

PLTW is a mission-driven organization that is transforming the learning experience for millions of PreK-12 students and thousands of teachers across the U.S. The organization empowers students to develop in-demand, transportable knowledge and skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.
