When the curtain rises at the Plaza Theater on opening night of the Nutcracker Magic of Christmas Ballet on Dec. 31, there will be a few familiar faces gracing the stage.
Over half a dozen dancers throughout Canutillo ISD are part of the popular holiday production’s corps de ballet. They include: Lena Johnson from Reyes Elementary; Madeline Swiss from Canutillo Elementary; Ximena Valenzuela and Valeria Valenzuela from Garcia Elementary; Brooklyn Welch from Alderete Middle School; Scarlett Ramos from Canutillo Middle School; and Canutillo High School (CHS) Flight captain, Alan Herrera along with Flight dancer, Geneva Smith.
“The CISD students performing in the production had to audition for their role, and will have the honor and opportunity to perform with professional dancers from this amazing company,” said CHS dance teacher Teresa Ramos. “As the Canutillo High School dance teacher, I am thrilled to have so many talented dancers in our community and I’m extremely excited that they will get to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. Auditions are held annually at For the Love of Dance Studio. I hope that more of our students will audition for their chance to shine next year as well.”
The performers from CISD share a passion for dance and have been working on perfecting their craft from young ages. No doubt this group of performers will relever to high places in the dance world.
