Reyes Elementary School Earns Outstanding Unit Award for Fort Bliss Partnership

For the second consecutive year, the campus has earned the Outstanding Unit award through the Fort Bliss Partners in Education program for the close partnership and collaboration with the 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion 11th Corps Signal Brigade from Fort Bliss.

Awardees receive the recognition based on commitment, collaboration and activities between the campus and their military partner. The Fort Bliss unit and its soldiers helped Reyes’ efforts to educate and support students and their families throughout the 2022-23 school year. Their activities included campus visits, help with special events and mentorship.

“We are very fortunate to have forged this strong partnership with the 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion 11th Corps Signal Brigade,” said Reyes’ Principal Dr. Jessica Melendez-Carrillo. “The continued support and visibility on our campus demonstrates our commitment to work together to serve our military families and our community.”

Canutillo ISD and its campuses regularly receive accolades for the work done to support the military community. Recently, the District was named a nominee for the Secretary of Defense Employee Support Freedom Award recognizing employers who have gone above and beyond in its support of military guard and the reservists. This past school year, both Reyes and Bill Childress Elementary earned the Purple Star Award for their commitment to military students by the Texas Education Agency.

The Reyes campus will be officially recognized and receive their award during the 2023 Partners in Education Kick Off event scheduled for August 11 at the Fort Bliss Centennial Banquet and Events Center.
