“I am grateful for this opportunity to continue serving on the TASB Legislative Advisory Council and advocate for the priorities of our region,” Trout said. “I look forward to continuing the important work alongside fellow members representing Region 19, to optimize educational opportunities for not only the students of Canutillo but our entire region and throughout the state.”

The LAC is a council of school board members representing the 20 Education Service Center regions throughout Texas. Members are tasked with the difficult job of taking all the regional advocacy priorities identified at grassroots meetings across the state and merging those into one list of statewide advocacy priorities for the TASB Advocacy Agenda.

At each grassroots meeting, trustees vote on a LAC representative for their region. Some regions may have more than one LAC representative, depending on the region’s student population.

Trout has served as a LAC Member for Region 19 for eight years. Her re-election underscores her dedication and expertise in advocating for educational policies that benefit students and communities across Texas. As a returning member of the LAC, Trout will continue to play a vital role in shaping legislative priorities and advancing the interests of Texas school districts in the state legislature.

Council members meet twice in even-numbered years to refine the results of the grassroots meetings and develop the advocacy priorities. They also convene after a regular session of the Texas Legislature to review legislative action and decide if changes should be made to the advocacy priorities and send recommendations to the TASB Board of Directors, then on to the Delegate Assembly for approval.

Additionally, Trout was awarded with a Grassroots Student Scholarship through the TASB Risk Fund in the amount of $1,000 that she earmarked for mental health services within CISD.

“I strongly support providing our youth with education and resources to strengthen their mental health and social emotional needs and this scholarship will help to further our efforts as a District to prioritize mental health and well-being.”
