Dear Canutillo Community,
On Monday and Tuesday, I had the privilege of participating in an intensive training session with our Board of Trustees as part of the Lone Star Governance (LSG) program, initiated by the Texas Education Agency. The training, which took place here in El Paso, aims to strengthen the way school districts like ours are governed, ultimately benefiting our students.
During these two days, we wholeheartedly embraced the LSG mantra: "Student outcomes don’t change until adult behaviors change." It was a journey filled with deep introspection and some challenging conversations among our dedicated trustees. However, I am pleased to report that these discussions, while difficult, were essential steps towards our shared goal of improving outcomes for our students.
The training focused on rerouting all Board work to supporting student outcomes as these reflect the values of the community. The trustees were amazing at recognizing their role in working toward reaching our goals, and outlining their duties and responsibilities in comparison to the work administration is tasked with doing in reaching those same outcomes.
I want to emphasize our administration's unwavering commitment to supporting our Board as they embark on the path to establishing LSG-backed student goals. This is a significant endeavor, and I am confident that the dedication and passion of our trustees, along with the collaborative efforts of our entire community, will lead us to meaningful improvements in our educational system.
As we move forward, I encourage each and every one of you to stay engaged and involved in our mission to provide the best possible education for our students. Your support and input are invaluable to our success, and together, we can create a brighter future for the children of Canutillo ISD.
