Dear Canutillo Community,
For nine weeks now, our students and staff have been hard at work teaching and learning the subjects they need to be successful. It’s hard to believe that the first day of school was that long ago, but time flies when you’re having fun. Thank you everyone for a wonderful first nine weeks of our school year!
To that end, I am happy to be among the first to wish you a happy intersession. Our students will be on break Oct. 3-14, with the exception of Northwest Early College High School which follows the El Paso Community College calendar. Staff will be off Oct. 10-14, with all District offices being closed.
Have a restful and re-energizing break, Canutillo. When we come back it will be full steam ahead until the end of the semester in December. Tons of work to do, but we are well equipped to do it.
Before we go on break, though, dozens of volunteers will spend this Saturday, Oct. 1, out in the community block walking and spreading the word about the upcoming Every Child, Every School Canutillo Bond. The informational walk is designed to give facts and figures about the Nov. 8 election to voters in the District.
Every school in the District has gathered volunteers to knock on doors Saturday morning and to answer any questions our community may have about the Bond. If you have any questions and want them answered now, feel free to visit our Every Child, Every School webpage at www.canutillo-isd.org/canutillobond2022. There you will find all the facts and figures you’ll need to make an informed decision.
Lastly, I want to talk to you about the safety and security of our campuses. The Texas Education Agency this week conducted an audit of our protocols and systems and our CISD Police performed at a great level. In fact, the actors that were here from the state to try to penetrate our schools unannounced were caught early and in an effective manner by our Safety and Security Department personnel. Great work!
And while the District performed well in the audit, the state did find some room for improvement. We continue to work with our teachers and staff to make sure we are following all rules regarding locked doors and security measures. The safety and security of our students and staff continues to be a top priority for us.
