Dear Canutillo Community,
As we ponder in the afterglow of Thursday's Canutillo High School commencement exercises at the Don Haskins Center, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 was nothing short of spectacular, marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and unwavering support from our entire community.
For the 360 graduates who proudly walked across the stage to receive their diplomas, Thursday was a momentous occasion—a celebration of their academic achievements and a testament to their resilience in the face of challenges. From the parents who provided endless love and encouragement at home to the teachers who tirelessly nurtured their growth and development in the classroom, we all played a vital role in shaping the futures of these remarkable young individuals.
But this is just the beginning for our graduates. As they embark on the next chapter of their lives, I am confident that the future holds boundless opportunities and success for each and every one of them. This sentiment was further reinforced by the incredible news of unprecedented scholarship success announced during the ceremony. Despite facing challenges with the application process, the Class of 2024 has amassed an astonishing $50 million in scholarships for college—an achievement that speaks volumes about their talent, perseverance, and dedication to pursuing their dreams.
I would be remiss if I did not extend my heartfelt gratitude to Principal Candice Marrufo for her outstanding leadership and meticulous organization of a truly memorable ceremony. From start to finish, the event was a testament to her unwavering commitment to our students and their families. I would also like to commend her for orchestrating a beautiful tribute to Carlos Lerma, a beloved member of the Class of 2024 who tragically passed away in 2021. Carlos may have left us too soon, but his spirit was palpable throughout the ceremony, serving as a poignant reminder of the profound impact he had on our school community.
As we bid farewell to the Class of 2024 and send them off into the world, I challenge each and every one of them to carry the Canutillo brand with them wherever they go. Let us continue to uphold the values of excellence, integrity, and compassion that define our community, and let us strive to make a positive difference in the world around us. Whether they choose to pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or serve their country, I have no doubt that our graduates will continue to inspire and uplift those around them, leaving an indelible mark on the world.
