Student Voting

The candidates for the three at-large spots on the Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday to answer questions from the student body and pose their campaign stances to the community.

The Candidate Forum is being organized by students at Canutillo High School and also will include the candidates for Justice of the Peace Precinct 7 and El Paso County Commissioner Precinct 4 — two races critical to the communities of Northwest El Paso, Canutillo, Vinton and Westway.

The event will start at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Canutillo High School cafeteria, 6675 South Desert Blvd.

Election Day is Nov. 4. Early voting began on Oct. 20 and will run through Oct. 31.  Early Voting locations near Canutillo include the Canutillo Nutrition Center (7351 Bosque Rd), Canutillo Elementary School (651 Canutillo Ave.) and Village of Vinton City Hall (436 E. Vinton Rd.).

Wednesday’s forum will be the only chance voters in Canutillo ISD will have to see the candidates in any organized manner.  Five candidates – including one incumbent – are vying for three spots on the Board.

Those elected will be charged with approving a $68-million budget, creating and approving District policies and evaluating the District Superintendent.  The Board will also make decisions on some of the most challenging issues impacting Canutillo: growth, academic attainment and school financing.

The public is invited to attend the forum.
